Winner, winner, chicken dinner

I wrote the title to this post first. That never happens. That is always the hardest part for me, so it always comes last ... until this post. Since I'm posting the winner of my Iron Girl Clearwater Half Marathon entry, this popped in my head and reminded me of a "Two and a Half Men" episode.

So, I started searching for this episode on YouTube (Alan gets friends and family to invest in a Ponzi scheme, and in the process develops a cocky alter ego who uses the phrase "winner, winner, chicken dinner" ... please tell me someone else knows what I'm talking about). Well, I failed in finding it. But, I did manage to end up on Whitney Houston (how does this always happen?), and I got lost in jamming to "How Will I Know" and "I Wanna Dance with Somebody" (and being sad that she is dead).

Anyway, that is totally not where I was wanting to go. Maybe there is a reason I usually save the title for last. But, I'm going to try and pull it all together. Stick with me.

Don'tcha wanna run with somebody? With somebody who loves you?

OK, I tried. I realize it's not really working.

But I do want to run with all who entered. I do love you.

Unfortunately, there is only one winner. And that winner is:

Winner selected through Rafflecopter via random.org

Congratulations, Caroline! I'll be in touch about your half marathon entry to the Clearwater Iron Girl!

If you didn't win, I still want to run with you! And, you can register for the Clearwater Iron Girl Half Marathon and 5K and use the coupon code TBBLOGGERS13 to save 10%. Hurry, though. This coupon code expires February 28.

I hope to see all of you there!

If you didn't win, you're still going to run Clearwater Iron Girl, right? Right?!? Are you a "Two and a Half Men" fan like me (Charlie Sheen episodes only)? What's your favorite Whitney Houston song?

Monday mashup

I know Monday isn't everyone's favorite day (or anyone's favorite day?), but I don't mind it. Except when I have to wake up at 5:40 a.m. to take someone to the airport. Morning is not my favorite thing. As you can imagine, this has left my brain in a state of disarray. So, randomness it is.
  • I recently bought a foam roller. I'm told that it will be one of my best friends. This hasn't happened yet, but I just got it. It's going to be a big part of my life since it is a required part of my Peak Wellness plan.
Unsure of my feelings at this time
  • I also recently bought a new pair of running shoes. They are pink. And pretty. And my feet love them because they are Brooks.
  • I don't watch much TV. Well, let me rephrase that. I don't watch much TV besides sports or "Two and a Half Men" reruns. And, ahem, "Jersey Shore." (I know, I know ...). Aside from "Jersey Shore," there is no show that I watch on a regular basis (and anxiously await the next week's episode). Last season, I loved "American Horror Story." It was my show. I watched it. I loved it. I anxiously awaited each episode. The new season starts on Wednesday. But, with almost all new characters ... in a new location. I am somewhat concerned that I won't like it anymore. I liked those characters, darn it. I liked the location, darn it. Sigh.
  • I recently made the declaration that I would like anything Bruno Mars sang. Stupid me for making such a proclamation. I don't like this song. It's monotonous and boring.
  • Here's a little sneak peak into tomorrow's "This week in running" post: the long run and I are back in love. Hugs and kisses!
Do you have a foam roller? Is it your best friend? What's your favorite brand of shoes or do you switch it up? Do you watch "American Horror Story"? Anyone else watch "Jersey Shore"? Do you like the new Bruno Mars song? Are you currently in or out of love with long runs?

Things that Rock Thursday

This Thursday is better than most. Maybe because I had Monday off, and it technically feels like Wednesday? Whatever the reason, I'll take it. But, it still doesn't hurt to talk about things that rock.

Anger Management

I've had a thing for Charlie Sheen for at least 16 years. I think he's hilarious. Even though he's kind of crazy, I find him refreshing because he's honest about it.

I loved him on "Two and a Half Men." I think I've managed to watch every episode of his run at least twice, thanks to reruns. So, I'm ready for some new material.

Thankfully, "Anger Management" came along. I'm still getting used to it (I'm not ready to declare it the funniest show ever ... yet), but I'm just so happy Charlie's back on TV. As mentioned previously, I have issues.

The treadmill

Lately, I'm obsessed with the treadmill. I fought it for so long, but with all the rain we've been getting, I had to make peace with it. Now, I'm somewhat in love.

Yes, I still run on the treadmill in the craptastic gym. Yes, it's still crappy. Yes, it's still insanely hot.

But, I can watch TV (like "Anger Management"). I can easily do speed workouts. I can play running games while watching TV (sprint through commercials). It makes running even more fun.

Mentha Lip Shine

I'm kind of iffy on mint. Sometimes I like it, and sometimes it makes me feel nauseous. I was taking a big gamble on buying this lip gloss (even though it was on sale for $2 at Bath and Body Works semi-annual sale).

Turns out, it didn't make me nauseous. And, I don't like it, I love it!

Not only is the scent (flavor?) fabulous (a mixture of bubble gum and mint), it actually moisturizes my lips. Most glosses seem to slack in that area (they make your lips shiny, but that's it). I don't believe their claim that it is a breath freshener, but other than that, I'm a  fan.

Wacky Wednesday: the next random 11

As a continuation from last week, I'm now answering the 11 random questions that Maggie asked me.

1.  What’s your favorite TV show? "Two and Half Men" – reruns only, though. I love Charlie Sheen.

2.  If you could have lunch with an actor/actress of any era, who would it be and why? I'm going to consider Elvis an actor (he did appear in 31 movies) and choose him. I'm fascinated with Elvis. I'll read any book written about him, so I'd love to hear things directly from him. And maybe he could give me some fashion tips.

3.  If you could tightrope walk across anywhere in the world, where would it be and why? I love-love-love Hawaii, so that's my choice. The varying, beautiful landscape would be awesome to see from above.

 4.  What do you do for a living? I'm a proofreader at an accounting firm. It's better than it sounds. Really.

5.  Do you crave sweet or salty foods? Um, both. Unfortunately.

6.  Can you remember your last dream?  What was it? I can't remember my last dream. I don't remember many .. except the one that included LL Cool J. That one, I remember!

7.  How big is your bed? It is queen-sized. I'd love to have a king-sized bed, though.

8.  What was the last thing you ate? A pickle. I love pickles. Definitely one of my favorite foods.

 9.  Who was your last phone call or text from? I just talked to my boyfriend.

10.  If you could have any super power, what would it be? I think I'd like to fly, mainly for the convenience factor (and to save money on gas and airfare).

11.  What are three things you can't live without? Lip balm, cell phone and rubber bands for my hair.

Wacky Wednesday

Weekly wackiness comin' at ya:
  • I was one of the estimated 111.3 million people who watched the Super Bowl. I love sports, so I'm going to watch it no matter what. The commercials are a nice bonus ... usually. Are the commercials just not as funny or as clever as they used to be? Maybe, like with most things, they're better when you're younger? I love dogs, so I'm a sucker for the dog commercials. This was my favorite:
  • Speaking (typing?) of dogs, my dog doesn't like (or isn't allowed) to chase cars. But, Chloe loves riding in them. I love looking in the rear-view mirror and seeing this (Note: although I was driving, I just held my phone and snapped. I did not linger and cause a dangerous situation.)
  • Every time I try to type "marathon," I type "marathong." It always makes me giggle. And, it makes me miss Sisqo (Oops. Did I just type that?).

  • Ashton Kutcher irritates me. I don't find him that attractive, and I find him highly annoying. The fact that he is ruining my favorite show (Two and a Half Men) doesn't help things. The fact that he replaced one of my favorite actors of all time (yes, Charlie Sheen) could be working against him as well.

Wacky Wednesday

I wanted a post where I can be completely random and not necessarily write about running, so the weekly feature, Wacky Wednesday, was born. Look for it here each Wednesday.

Now, onto the randomness:
  • I finally saw "Bad Teacher." I LOVE Cameron Diaz, so I've wanted to see this movie forever. My boyfriend doesn't necessarily like her, so when I told him I wanted to see this movie I knew he probably wouldn't want to see it in the theater. Imagine my surprise when he said he saw this movie with a friend and liked it! Hmph! So, last week I finally got around to renting it (thanks, Blockbuster Express with your $1 rentals). And, I found it quite humorous. Cameron is funny stuff, and I love the fact that Justin Timberlake's character can't dance.
  • I can't get enough of Bruno Mars. The majority of his songs are cheesy, sappy and totally unlike something I'd normally like. But, I don't like them, I love them. Seriously, this guy can sing anything, and I'd be enthralled.
  • I'm sad the "American Horror Story" season is over. There aren't many (any?) shows I look forward to watching each week (well, since Charlie Sheen got fired from "Two and a Half Men" anyway), but this is one I anxiously awaited. Each episode was suspenseful and explained part of a mystery.  And, it was superbly acted (Jessica Lange is just awesome). And, now it's gone. Boo!
If you don't watch, I bet this makes you want to start.

Day 20 (Sept. 22)

A thunderstorm rolled into the area about 4:30 p.m. I thought it was the typical Florida afternoon storm, and I thought the rain would clear long before our training group's 6:30 p.m. run. I thought wrong.

When I left work about 5:50 p.m., it was still raining. After walking to my car and trying my best to avoid the rivers and lakes that formed in what used to be streets and parking lots, I started toward our group meeting place. I figured the rain could clear. If not, our coach has indoor lesson plans. This is when things started going downhill.

Traffic was a nightmare (as it usually is when it rains). I finally got to my exit, and traffic was backed up on the exit ramp almost to the interstate. I figured there must be a wreck at the bottom of the ramp. I figured wrong.

While waiting on the ramp, I noticed a raging river. Problem: no river is usually there. I noticed this raging river flowing along the ramp and wondered where it was going. I found my answer at the bottom of the ramp: the road I needed to take to get to our training group.

After watching other cars drive into the deep water, I thought I'd give it a shot. I didn't really have any other options ... unless I wanted to wait for the water to go down. I'm not patient, so this wasn't going to work for me. Thank goodness I have an SUV, so I made it through. Problem #2: the next intersection was the same ... maybe worse. At this point, I made the decision to just go home. But, I still had to get through the water. After turning left through more deep water (off of the flooded road), I thought my troubles were over. I was wrong yet again.

The road I was now on was clear for a bit ... then I hit more water. This was definitely the deepest water I encountered. Cars were stalled. Some were just waiting it out. Eek. Since I knew I wasn't waiting, I had to make the decision to go through this deep water or turn around and go through the other two sections of water that I went through to get here. As mentioned, since I'm not patient, I really didn't feel like going back into the traffic mess I just managed to free myself from. I waited and watched other cars try to make it through. Most cars failed. But, trucks, SUVs and vans seem to be able to make it. Having a smaller SUV, I was still nervous, but I gave it a shot. It's a strange feeling driving through deep water and a bit unnerving to look around you and just see water. But, thankfully, I made it. And, thankfully, the rest of my trip did not involve flooded roadways.

When I finally made it home, I decided to run (must have been the adrenaline from the flooded roads adventure). But, since it was still sprinkling and lightning some, I decided to hit the treadmill.

I haven't used a treadmill in my training, and now I remember why.

I did find an Ashton-free "Two and a Half Men" on TV in the condo gym (I use this term very loosely), so that rocked. (Side note: I love Charlie Sheen and all his craziness. I watched the first episode of "Two and a Half Men" starring Ashton Kutcher, and I thought it sucked. Ashton seemed so dull and unfunny. Maybe I'm biased, though.)

Other than the superb viewing option, I liked nothing else about this experience.

I needed to do a 10-minute warm up, 15 minutes hard and a 20-minute recovery/cool down/normal pace run. The 10-minute warm up felt like it lasted hours. Even with Charlie, it was still boring. Ugh. I started in on my 15-minute hard interval, and it went really smoothly.

Until this:

The pesky safety key. I understand its use and realize this could be a good thing. Could. Not in my case.

Despite the air conditioned room and a fan, I sweat. A lot. I think I sweat more inside than I do outside. One of the many times I was wiping sweat off of my forehead, I hit the string to the dreaded safety key. And, I went from running at my fast pace to a dead stop. Argh! I was just getting in a groove, too. I started running again, but I lost all my data on the treadmill, and I had to estimate how much time I had remaining in my interval.

The rest of the run went smoothly. Until I hit the blasted safety key again. Argh. But, I got the run in. Despite being extremely boring (and that dang safety key), it went well.

I felt the sweatiest I've ever been when I finished, so I took a picture to document it. Hmm. Massive amounts of sweat don't really come across in photos. I think I look pleasantly dewy here. Not drenched in sweat like I was.

Also, you can see the crappiness of the gym in this photo. That is all of the equipment (aside from one treadmill that was beside me). And, this gym feels like a kitchen with the linoleum and cabinets, but at least I have it. I guess I shouldn't complain. I tried to get the TV with Charlie in the picture, but I missed it. Darn.
