It was a Thursday

Thursday didn't really go as planned. Work brought surprises. After work brought traffic problems, a missed running group and lightning (yikes). This type of day (it's a darn Thursday again) leads to randomness.
  • On this crazy day, I got some pretty rockin' news: I'm sweating pink. What does that mean? It means I'm a Sweat Pink Ambassador. So, what does that mean? It means that I'll sweat hard, play hard and inspire those around me to achieve their best selves. Read more about it here.

  • I didn't consider myself a Beyonce fan before Sunday. I liked some songs, but was not overly crazy about her (unlike her husband, Mr. Carter ... love some Jay-Z). Then, the Super Bowl halftime show happened. She was incredible, amazing, fabulous. She sang live, and she rocked it. And she indulged me a Destiny's Child reunion. Thanks, Bey.
  • Speaking of Bey and Jay, they were in New Orleans the weekend before the Super Bowl. So was I. Where's the meet-up, folks? Or, more realistically, a sighting. I want to improve my celebrity sightings. Right now, I've got a blurry photo of Vanilla Ice. That's it. Jay would have been a major rapper upgrade.
  • Everyday, at least four times per day, I'm looking up at seven flights of stairs. The elevator is being replaced in our building. With a dog, this makes for lots of trips up and down. They estimate it will be out for four to six weeks. Nine days down (and up)!
  • The Rock 'n' Roll Half Marathon is this weekend! I loved this race last year, and I can't wait to rock it again. From an expo on a Major League Baseball field to bands along the course, this race really does rock. And, the name includes my favorite word: rock.
  • Stay tuned next week for my very first and very awesome giveaway! Hint: if you like running and are female (sorry, dudes), this giveaway is going to rock your world! (A badge in the right sidebar is even more of a hint.)
Do you like Beyonce? Did you like the Super Bowl halftime show? Do you like Jay-Z? Any good celebrity sightings? Have you rock a Rock 'n' Roll race? What did you think?

Things that Rock Thursday

Since I'm posting this in a different time zone, I'm still calling this Thursday.

Even though this Thursday is way more awesome than the usual Thursday, I'm still posting some things that rock to make it even better (because some things are still not cool about this day – like a huge blister from shoes that I've worn for years without problem that has kept me from running for a week and a mysterious sore throat).

Sweet past week

This past week involved six glorious days of baseball. When it's one of your favorite things, that makes for a pretty sweet week.

Sweet race shirt

Although I'm a bit worried about the race itself (the reasons: not liking 5Ks, the mysterious blister and mysterious sore throat), I love the shirt.

Sweet dog

My brother's dog is so awesome. He's a bit slobbery and stinky, but Dude is the sweetest dog. And, he loves to run into the basement and flop down on the cool floor (especially when it's 102 degrees).

Things that Rock Thursday

Thursdays aren't my favorite, but I have to admit that this one is better than most. Why? It's my Friday. Why? My dad is coming to visit, and then we're hitting Kansas City for Major League Baseball All-Star festivities. So this Thursday is actually the start of something good (or the end of something bad ... what a week).

Thursday rocks a little more this week, and these things do too.
Vacation days (and holidays)

Not having to work and doing whatever you want rocks. Duh.
Baseball
I've loved baseball my entire life. Earlier in life, I loved it more for the cotton candy it could provide. Now, I love the game and absolutely everything that comes with it (cotton candy included). My grandpa loved baseball and passed that love to my dad who then passed it to me. I can't think of a better way to spend the next six days than at six baseball games with my favorite baseball-going pal, Dad.
Go Rays!
Mascots
I have a thing for mascots. I think they are so cute and awesome. Well, most are cute and awesome. Some are actually kind of scary.
But, most are super cute and cuddly like my favorite Major League Baseball mascot, Raymond.
How cute is Raymond in his pajamas? The game
went extra innings, so it was past his bedtime.
(I, on the hand, do not look cute. I was so happy
I over-smiled. I need to control myself in any
future situations.)
Visitors
Having guests allows me to do all the touristy things that I never do: like go to the cheesy beach shops and citrus stands. It just seems more acceptable if you have guests visiting from out of state.

Day 29 (Oct. 13)

I highly dislike Thursdays. We even started the I Hate Thursday Club at work. Seriously, it’s that bad. Maybe that’s why I like running on Thursday. It helps get rid of all that awful workday stress.
This Thursday, we had a 50-minute run with a 10-minute warm up, 25-minute hard interval, followed by a 15-minute cool down. The hard interval was tough, but manageable. I maintained about a one-minute faster pace than normal during the hard interval.
My reward (besides running) for making it through Thursday: sushi + “Jersey Shore,” which equals happiness to me. As much as I dread Thursday workdays, I love Thursday nights (as long as work doesn’t spill into the evening). After running, I make a stop at the grocery store to grab sushi (yes, it’s actually really good), take a walk with my dog, and then I head to the Shore. This show fascinates me. I laugh at every episode – even though I probably shouldn’t.

Thanks to running, sushi and “Jersey Shore,” Thursdays became more bearable.
