Randomness, but it all flows ... kind of

  • So, I got an iPhone about a week ago. I haven't used it yet. Why? Well, first my dad had a minor health scare, and I wanted to always have my phone available; I didn't want to be in the middle of the switch and miss an important call (he is fine, by the way). Then, due to the Republican National Convention being in town, I have to work from home all week; I didn't want to not know how to mute my phone for conference calls (important stuff, people ... especially when working from home by yourself and you end up talking to yourself). So, I have the iPhone. It is beautiful. I still have done nothing with it.
  • Let's go back to that working from home thing. It is not all it's cracked up to be. I did it solely for my last job, and I couldn't stand it. My only human companion during the day was the UPS guy. It sucked. Nothing against the UPS guy; he rocked. But, he only stopped by for a few minutes once or twice a week. While I'm grateful to not have to go into the office this week and suffer through massive traffic jams, car searches, body searches, police in riot gear, protesters and general havoc, I really, really don't like working from home.
  • So, I took Wednesday and Thursday off (Friday and Monday are firm holidays ... yay!). I'll be traveling to Texas to meet up with my boyfriend who is doing contract work there, and then we'll travel together to Kansas on Friday ... just in time for the first Kansas State football game of the season.
  • Baseball is my favorite sport, but I love football too. Especially college football. Especially Kansas State football. I still get chills when I hear the crowd chant in unison: "K-S-U Wildcats." It brings me back to my college days oh-so-long ago.
A non-college photo (I can tell because it's in color)
  • With the trip, I'll miss my half marathon training group on Thursday and Sunday. I plan on getting the schedule and running in Texas on Thursday and in Kansas on Sunday (or perhaps Monday in Florida, depending on how things work out). If I run in Kansas, that will be three different states for the week of running. Sweet.
  • Plans aren't definite yet, but I'm hoping a Rays vs. Rangers game on Wednesday will happen! Fly in, head straight to the stadium. That's my kind of travel.
  • Rays fan, will travel
  •  Your turn for randomness: Do you ever work from home? Do you like it? Have you run in Florida, Texas or Kansas? Do you like college football? Do you like baseball?

Wacky Wednesday no more

This is my last Wacky Wednesday. Why? Because every day is wacky and random. And, I can write about that along with my running adventures.

I guess when I first started blogging about running, I thought that's all I could write about (yeah, I'm a smart one). Obviously, that's always the focus, but there are other things in life like baseball, my dog, celebrity gossip, Elvis, Jessica Simpson, boy bands, Kansas State (and purple), music, movies and wine that are blog-worthy (or not). And, these other interests happen on days besides Wednesday. And, they are a part of my life as much as running.

So, I'm just going to incorporate those other things into regular posts (not relegate them to Hump Day only).

Now, onto the randomness:
  • Is Jessica Simpson really still pregnant? Holy crap. She's got to be uncomfortable. And, her baby totally missed my birthday.
  • Chloe enjoyed the beautiful weather today ... or was avoiding the stairs. We live in a 7th floor condo, and the elevator was broken.
  • I loved New Orleans. It was beautiful, fun and had delicious food. Now that I'm not relegating content like this to Wednesdays, I can do a full post about it later (because it deserves it).
  • I watched "Friends With Benefits." Didn't love it, but it kept me entertained. I like Justin Timberlake, but I think I like him better as a singer (more specifically, a singer in a boy band). He's an OK actor I guess, but bring back *NSYNC.

Wacky Wednesday

It's not my favorite day of the week, but I try to make it a little better with some wackiness:
  • I'm used to people calling my dog cute (these people are brilliant, by the way). What I'm not used to is people stopping their car in the middle of the road to yell this out. Tonight as Chloe and I were walking around the neighborhood, a guy stopped his car and yelled, "What a cutie! She looks just like Spanky's dog." I did not know if this was good or bad or dirty.
  • After I asked the smartest person I know (Google), I discovered that Spanky was in the "Little Rascals." (On a side note, careful on that Google. I speak from experience.) I guess there is a resemblance, but not enough that I would stop my car and yell at someone (with them possibly thinking I'm a dirty freak).
  •  I get way too worked up over sports and sports-related happenings. When I heard that Frank Martin was leaving Kansas State to coach basketball at South Carolina, I was sad. Why, oh why, would he leave the beautiful purple school that is my alma mater? Then, I got mad! Really, Frank. Why did you leave an up-and-coming basketball school to go coach a school in a football conference? It's a step down (no offense to South Carolina fans). And what did someone do to make him leave? Ahem! Athletic Director?!? Anyway, I've determined yet again that I need to get a life.
Purple pride (and a strange brother)
  • My other hobby, celebrity goings-on and gossip is in full force, too. (Yes, I know that this doesn't qualify me as having a life either.) Selena Gomez is filming a movie in the area. She's been spotted. Her boyfriend, Justin Bieber, has been spotted too. Now, James Franco is here! I have yet to see any of them, darn it.
