- Our running group started bridge training for the Clearwater Iron Girl Half Marathon this weekend. In other places, this may be known as "hill training." On the West coast of Florida, there are no such things as hills. We met at a local trail and ran overpass repeats for 50 minutes. There were three overpasses in a small area, so you can cover a lot in a short amount of time. It was tough. Probably the most difficult 4.3 miles I've ever ran. I'm hoping it gets easier.
- During this training, it was extremely humid. Being the sweaty girl that I am, I sweat ... a lot. Since I knew this was going to happen, I wore my hair in a braid to try and avoid the sweaty, tangled ponytail I usually get. Instead, I got a tangled braid (how does this happen?!?). Any advice on how to avoid tangled, matted, nasty, sweaty hair?
Ponytail and braid end in tangled, sweaty messes. (Yes, I like purple and making funny faces.) |
- Speaking of purple (when do I not speak of purple?), I will soon have these beautiful babies in my possession. I got the last pair in my size (allegedly), and I got them on sale. Score!

- In other exciting running news, my dad is running! He's run before (he played college basketball and was in the military), but not in a very long time. He walks 3 miles a day at the gym, and he decided he wanted to add some running. I sent him the Couch to 5K plan and told him to take it easy, not overdo it and not get discouraged. He's decided he wants to do a 5K with me when he's here in March for some spring training games. I'm so pumped!
Baseball and running? Awesome! |
Do you do hill/bridge training? Has it helped you? Do you like it? What is your favorite color? Have you ever run a race with a family member?
I have those purple shoes! Shoe twins!
ReplyDeleteI just ran the Misener Bridge last week...gotta love Florida "hills". When my hair was longer I would do the braid to avoid the rats nest ponytail. Even though the braid gets ratty and sweaty, I still think it's easier than untangling the ponytail. That's so cool that your Dad is going to be running!
ReplyDeleteI think you're right ... braid tangling is still better than ponytail tangling.
DeleteYay, everything!
ReplyDeleteOmit was crazy humid at princess! Yay purple and yay brooks!
ReplyDeleteI love randomness posts! I have just started braiding my hair for yoga and I love it. I have not done it yet while running - I normally put it back in a tigh ponytail /bun-type style with a headband. Anyway I look at it, I'm going to be a hot sweaty mess. That's so cool about your dad... It will be so fun to run a 5K together. And good job on the bridge training. Definitely no hills here!
ReplyDeleteI am random the majority of the time, so I'm glad to hear that! :c)
Deleteooo Purple! I have horrible run hair. During races I put it in the tightest bun possible and don't take it down until it's shower time. Anything else results in disgusting matted hair that takes about 30 minutes to comb out. My mom wants to start Couch to 5k as soon as the nights get lighter(she lives up north). I'm hoping she sticks with it!
ReplyDeleteI guess I need to try a bun for running. It takes forever to comb out, and it is gross! I hope your mom likes running.
DeleteIt was super humid all weekend! I thought it was supposed to rain but it didn't =/
ReplyDeleteI think the weather is supposed to cool down this week! I'm hoping :)
Have a great week.
My favorite color right now is dark turquoise. My latest running shoes are that color and I guess that started a trend. Now I have three running shirts and one regular shirt in various shades of the same.
ReplyDeleteI don't do specific hill training, but there is at least one good hill in every run I do. I can't really avoid hills here but I rearrange my routes to put the hills in different places depending on how easy or hard I want the run to be.
I love dark turquoise, too ... especially with purple!
DeleteWe do causeways/bridges over on the east coast too. Though we have a riverside run that is pretty hilly. I plan on starting to run that more frequently with a friend that is a Fifty Stater as she starts to prepare for San Fran half. As for family, nope no runners. Hubby will occasionally if I beg and plead join me, but its not his thing so I respect it. As for color...depends on my mood. I like to say my favorite color is glitter since its sparkly and has all the colors in it. I lean towards red for the most part, but for workout clothes I like it bright so teal, yellows, bright pinks, purples...anything that screams...woohoo look at me I'm working out! ;)
ReplyDeleteI love that you say that glitter is your favorite color!
DeleteThat is awesome that your dad is going to run with you! :)
